On Friday, May 31st, 2024, the President of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Minister of Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, Mr. Nelyo Isaac Sarmento, presided over the second NSC ordinary meeting held at the Magna Meeting Room of the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture. The meeting was attended by the Commissioners and NSC staff, discussing the proposed Decree-Law on the establishment of the National Organizational Anti-Doping (NADO) in Timor-Leste.

During the meeting, the Commissioners were presented the Decree-Law draft. They requested additional time to thoroughly read through the document before presenting it to the Council of Ministers for approval. As a result, no final decision was made regarding the NADO Decree-Law at this time.
The NSC also deliberated on the prize attribution for Paralympic athlete Mr. Teofilo Freitas. His 2018 record for the T37 category in the 400m at the ASEAN Para Games in Jakarta, Indonesia, was annulled. The NSC decided to wait for the Timor-Leste National Paralympic Committee (CPNTL) to seek confirmation from the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) before proceeding with any prize attributions. Additionally, the decision regarding Mr. Freitas’s record time for the T38 category in the 1500m at the Asian Para Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China, will be made after receiving confirmation from the IPC regarding the previously annulled record.
Furthermore, the NSC is preparing a final list of athletes who will compete in the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, France. Currently, some athletes are still participating in pre-qualification events.

The NSC’s commitment to establishing a NADO and ensuring fair recognition of athletes’ achievements underscores its dedication to maintaining the integrity of sports in Timor-Leste.
